Dwell has had a delightful first quarter after opening in September of 2012!
We are evaluating the success by reviewing what we've been doing to be true to our concept.

Some of our touch points are:

 seek the unusual
add fresh treasures to the shop daily
display with an eye to how you might like to use an item in your home
 rotate displays weekly
search for one of a kind and handmade items
feature the creativity of numerous local artists
incorporate elements of nature

love well made pieces
repurpose
upcycle
offer design consultation, in store and in your home
celebrate each month with a special event promotion
keep a wish list for your dream items
offer social media contact points

play happy music
do our best at what we do

The Dwell Girls
 are

studying fresh design ideas
searching for local artistic talent
buying all over the country
refurbishing vintage and antique items
listening to our customers ideas
reading up on the trends
enjoying life

It makes us happy to do what we do
and
it makes us happy
making you happy!

Drop in and browse
soak up some atmosphere
and

Dwell on the possibilities

I've been
looking back over the last year
and
 my journey, thoughts and struggles
 on
 expanding my antiques business.

A lot of prayer and calculation and heart searching went into the process.
Dreaming, sketching
more praying.

Dwell Antiques & Home
opened in September of 2012

just south of Denver proper,
at
5912 South University Boulevard
 Greenwood Village, Colorado

Three capable, determined women
each with a strong skill set
decided to come together to create the dream.

DWELL
is not a typical antiques shop
and
there are no hard and fast rules about what we collect and present.

We bring an ever changing collection of found objects from our forays  . . .

items that have a mellow patina
memories
connections
 some special essence,

hoping that our clients will find DWELL an interesting and enchanting place to visit.

The ambiance we strive to create is one where you'd like to spend time perusing,
even when you're not looking for anything in particular.

We love it when you identify with an object and delight in it.

We'd like to invite you to visit,

to relax and stroll through the shop,

to

enjoy the music
 and the fragrance

and the hand picked items that speak to our hearts.

Grab a coffee just 5 doors down

and

if you have time,
pull up a vintage stool or chair
and
chat with us awhile.

We're happy to give advice on styling your home
in a way that reflects
what you're all about.

We'll make notes in the
 Wish Book
about the things you're looking for,
and hunt for them on our journeys across the country.

We'll help you think outside the box when it comes to

"what do I do with the huge 16' expanse of wall"
or
"I want a headboard with charm"
or
"I need to work around the 9000" TV my hubby just brought home."

We love a challenge!

So
Come see us at Dwell Antiques & Home

DWELL ANTIQUES & HOME

I've been keeping busy
preparing for the new shop

DWELL
Antiques and Home

and
maintaining the quality and quantity of inventory
at
PATINA
Antiques and Home

and

neglected to sit down and share the journey
with you my
friends!

The delightful daily process of
 hunting, examining and choosing
 beautiful and soul nourishing treasures

 could
consume all my waking hours!

THE JOURNEY
toward creating a shop
is more than
 licensing, legal documents,
 leases, list making,
 signage,
contracts,
operating agreements, corporate docs and construction.

It's more than
stress,
financial statements
and
restless nights.

It's even more than choosing
the flavor of inventory
style
and
personality of your shop.

It's about
making life decisions
and long term commitments
and
choosing
to
lock into a lifestyle
that,
once chosen,
is
there to be lived with

day in and day out.

Like marriage or child bearing,
these decisions
change your life,
for a
long, long, long time.

There are no vacations from retail.
No
 "unsigning"
 of long term leases,
no
divorce from obligations
no way to
opt out.

WHEW!!!!!

I've lived for 35 years in a retail lifestyle.

Owning a small business is an everyday challenge.
The shopkeeper's holidays are geared around
what customers desire
and
the hours they prefer to shop.

Price competition from the big guys is unbelievably fierce.
Consumers cannot always afford to make a choice to own
 a one of a kind,
handmade or antique item,
when a mass-produced lookalike is readily available at a fraction of the price.
(Who could blame them?)

That said,
I would not dream of any other approach to life.

I have chosen who I am comfortable being.

I have chosen to be content with a small portion of the retail pie.

To present a tiny portion of the population
with a
small and select range of wares
which I hope will
enhance their live and nourish their spirit.

Limiting?
Challenging?
Thought provoking?
Time consuming?
(Questionable logic?)
Yep!

Worth it?

As the saying goes,
"PRICELESS"!

If you know me,
you know that my life revolves around my belief system.
Being a blessing to
God
family
all others

then,
working hard to do my best
to be self sustaining
and
to have something left over to give away.

I'm sharing with you because many ask.

. . . . YES . . . .
The new shop is coming along,
slowly

but no doubt in perfect
time.

Prayers !

See Our Brand new Store

Yes . . .

I'm back to blogging again
following a hiatus
while I recovered from the best show I've ever had!

Old Glory
Rocked
!!!!!

The new venture I've been working on was premiered at the show:

Dwell Antiques & Home

It was a huge success, and the compliments were awesome.

SO,
MY ANNOUNCEMENT:

With new partners Kellie Brown and Melanie Everhart,
Joy will be opening
 a second shop!

DWELL ANTIQUES & HOME

While I continue to grow and upgrade my inventory
at
PATINA ANTIQUES & HOME
in
Greenwood Village, Colorado,

we three will create a fresh and innovative shop
in the same neighborhood.

(Yep - Joy will be at both locations)

As you may imagine, this is quite a challenge
with the beautiful boutiques and antiques shops already in the area!

We're working hard to design a store you'll want to visit on a regular basis.
We want to energize and excite you.
We want to be the place you visit whenever you have the urge to be inspired!

It is our dream to present you with a joyful environment
where you can breathe in the ambience
and release all the stresses

bask in a peaceful and pleasant
shopping experience

and have your spirit refreshed
*!*

We are juggling the brick and mortar facility
and
our website/online store
as
we prepare
this
special place.

There are weeks and weeks of preparation before we'll be ready. . .
but
we're working hard for you!

Travelling
Buying
Inventorying
Designing
Painting
Sewing
Sanding
Polishing
(you get the picture)

I'll keep you posted, right here . . .
and,
you can follow us at the
Dwell blog

Come Visit!
